Safe Bikeways Initiative

SafeBikeways is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to reporting unsafe bikeways conditions to the municipalities responsible for bikeway maintenance.  SafeBikeways was founded by a group of cyclists, cycling activists and residents of Southern California. They use our skills of negotiation to wind our way through the legal system, resulting in bikeway repairs.

L4C worked with the founders of SafeBikeways to help develop an iPhone app where cyclists can take a picture of a road or bikeway condition that threatens the safety of our community.  Then, that picture, and the condition’s location, can be easily submitted through the app, with automatic geo-locating technology.  After receiving the submitted condition, SafeBikeways sends formal notice to the government entity that maintains the road or bikeway, with a request to repair.  SafeBikeways continues to follow up with that municipality until the condition is repaired and is no longer a threat to the safety of our cyclists.
